Karen's Walk to End Hunger Page
I am participating in the Thanksgiving Day Walk to End Hunger on November 28th!
I invite you to support me and my participation in the Walk, by making a donation or by walking with me on Thanksgiving morning. Together, we WILL make a difference for the 1 in 5 families in the Minnesota who struggle to put food on the table. Together, we'll make a difference for those who don't even have a table, and are looking for a meal to eat each day. Together, we'll make a difference for elders and others who are so grateful to have meals delivered to them each week by Meals on Wheels volunteers.
A true story:
I have been hungry.
I have been hungry--the kind of hungry one can be when there is very little in the cupboards, little (or less than) in the bank account because there is little or no paycheck coming or because the amount that is due for rent, heat, electric, water, and transportation outweigh the amount of the paycheck and there simply is not enough to purchase more of anything.
It wasn't for long, but I have been hungry, making sure that the food I did have fed my children and knowing that my portion would be little or nothing so that there would be enough food leftover for the next day. There was a year of my life that was like this, when I was a single mom.
I am grateful that when I was hungry, there were people ready to help if I needed it, and was brave enough to ask.
I am not hungry today; I am thankful every day that I am not.
And, I don't ever want to forget what it was like to be hungry, because I don't want to let others be hungry, if I am able to help.
There is enough food, there is enough money, and there are enough resources in this world to make sure that NO ONE need ever be hungry.
This November, we will be spending each day paying attention to what we eat, how we spend our time and money, and making an effort each day to what is in our cupboards so that by Thanksgiving Day, we will have plenty leftover to give to those who are still hungry.
Our team, SKD Kitchens will be walking together on Thanksgiving morning in the Walk to End Hunger.
Are you willing to help? Every single gift will help.
